Mr Fokken's Classes

 Supplies for math classes:

Paper, pencils, scientific calculator--preferably a Casio fx series that has Natural Textbook Display (not a phone), and a ruler.

Geometry students also need a compass and protractor.

Classroom Expectations

Classes

Upper Level Math:

Designed for students who have finished Algebra II, but wish to pursue additional high school mathematics. Topics include linear, quadratic, exponential, polynomial, rational, and trigonometric functions. Additionally, students are introduced to topics in statistics and probability.

PARCC assessment focus

Algebra I:

Students are introduced to algebraic expressions, focus on solving linear equations and systems, and are introduced to linear, quadratic, exponential, and polynomial functions.

Geometry:

Students study postulates and theorems on plane geometry topics that include angles, lines, segments, bisectors, congruence, similarity, and area and volume of plane figures. Additionally, students are introduced to topics in coordinate geometry such as transformations and distance and midpoint formulas as well as trigonometric functions.

Algebra II:

Students focus on a variety of functions including linear, quadratic, exponential, polynomial, rational, and trigonometric functions. Additionally, students are introduced to topics in statistics and probability.

Junior High Math 3:

Topics covered were typically those of an Algebra I course, due to changes in state standards, these topics have been moved to Jr. High Math 3. Students will explore topics including rational and real numbers, algebraic expressions, linear equations and systems, exponential functions, square and cube roots, transformations in the plane, statistics, and probability.
